Who We Are
Hi there! We’re Mike and Emily (and our crew of 4 children), and we are on a mission to revive the family dinner experience with authentic, good-for-you and great tasting Italian pantry staples at affordable bulk prices! Some of our favorite family memories have been around the table for a multi-hour lunch in various nonna-run kitchens of the Umbrian hills!
For years, our family suffered from chronic, hard-to-diagnose health issues! We explored countless treatments in both Western medicine and functional medicine philosophies, committing to diets, supplements, and different medications. We had to be meticulous about sourcing our food which became quite expensive, and we would spend hours preparing food from scratch every day.
In the summer of 2024, we traveled with our family to Italy for an extended trip and many of our health issues simply resolved without trying (eczema, hashimoto, high cholesterol, and stomach/digestive issues just to name a few). What's more, health came to our family while eating gelato, pasta, pizza and wine every day—all the things that we can’t have here in America without paying for it!
The food quality of Italy was different, and much much better! But it was nearly impossible to find authentic products from Italy here in the US, and the few places we did find, the price was prohibitive. So we decided to explore what it would take to import bulk Italian pantry staples for our family! Once friends and family heard what we were doing, they wanted a way to procure these products for their family as well, and Old World Imports was born!

As you may have noticed, we have a simple product line. It’s intentional! Unlike other online grocery stores that carry thousands of products, we’ve kept it simple. Handpicking and vetting every product and brand before adding it to our curated list, which will continue to grow over time. We aren’t a niche specialty grocery store with items for those with acquired tastes, but a marketplace for superior quality grocery essentials you’ll find in every home. We aren’t trying to sell overpriced truffle Italian olive oil (as good as that is—it’s not what traditional Umbrian cuisine uses!).

It probably won’t surprise you, but not all Italian products are created equal. Just because a product is labeled “Italian” doesn’t mean it’s a product they sell in Italy (aka meets the European food standard). And that standard is what has created the health phenomenon known as the blue zone and the famed Mediterranean diet.

This means you get the very best price on this side of the pond. Like Costco, buying in bulk always drives down the cost per unit, that means more savings for you and your family. And since we focus on pantry items that are easy to store, don’t expire for a long time, and can be used everyday, we know the food won't go to waste.
